There’s a nor’easter bringing cooler weather this weekend, and the leaves are just beginning to change. Autumn is a great time to get out and support parishes in our diocese and have fun too. Here are some events scheduled in the coming weeks:
This weekend: Take a day out for your faith and attend the Diocese of Wilmington’s Annual Marian Pilgrimage, on Sept. 26 at Shrine of Our Lady Queen of Peace on the campus of Holy Spirit Church in New Castle. The theme is “Our Lady of Nazareth” and the guest speaker will be Rev. Matthew Kauth of the Diocese of Charlotte, N.C., rector of St. Joseph College Seminary, and author of “The Imitation of Saint Joseph.” Fr. Kauth will speak on drawing more closely to Our Lady through Saint Joseph. The day begins at 10 a.m. Complimentary breakfast items are available at 9:30 a.m. in the gymnasium. Participants may bring their own lunch or may purchase lunch on site for $10. Lunch will be prepared by the parish’s Hispanic community. The day concludes with a Holy Hour, Rosary and Mass with Bishop Koenig. Check parish bulletins and contact your parish liaison for more information on parish participation in the day.
Don’t delay — just one week away: Men of the Diocese are encouraged to sign up now to share fellowship at the inaugural Catholic Men of Delmarva Conference, on Oct. 3, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Saint Mark’s High School, Wilmington. The theme is Authentic Masculinity, and the day includes fellowship, music ministry, vendors, national speakers, and Mass with Bishop Koenig. Join folks at Holy Angels for a day of hope, prayer, and practical teaching that helps you take hold of the freedom Jesus won for you and gave you at Baptism. Holy Angels will host UNBOUND: Freedom in Christ Conference, on Saturday, Sept. 26, presented by Matt Lozano of Heart of the Father Ministries. Bring your appetite on Sept. 27, from 3-5 p.m. when Mount Aviat’s Annual Roast Beef Dinner returns. The menu includes delicious roast beef with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, and of course a delicious array of desserts. Tickets are available in advance or at the door. Adults $20, Seniors (60+) $14, and Children (4-10) $10. Takeout is available. Also on Sept. 27 at 7 p.m., all are invited to the 20th Anniversary Concert to Combat Human Trafficking, at Skyline Methodist Church, 3100 Skyline Dr., Wilmington, featuring many performers who are connected to Resurrection Parish. Free will donations support Zoe Ministries DE and Shared Hope International. Please come and join the mission to Prevent trafficking and to Rescue and Restore its victims!
Take a day trip: St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish is running a trip to the Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pa. to see “Joshua” on Sept. 30. Cost is $160 per person, and the price includes show, bus fare, smorgasbord lunch at Hershey Farm in Strasburg, Pa., bus snacks, tips and taxes. Rosary devotions begin in October at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington. October is the month of the Holy Rosary. We invite you to join us for the recitation of the Rosary before each weekday 6:30 p.m. Mass and after the Saturday 8 a.m. Mass. At the Saturday 4 p.m. Mass, one decade will recited after Mass. Sunday 11:30 a.m. Mass, Rosary recited after Mass with Exposition. Sunday during 3:00 p.m. Adoration, one decade of the Rosary will be recited. All are welcome.
If you’re in Seaford, check out the Annual Our Lady of Lourdes Dinner Dance on Saturday, Oct. 3. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. in the Church. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall behind the Church. Food will be catered by Maria’s Bella Cucina of Seaford. On Oct. 3, national author and pro-life advocated Ramona Trevino will appear at two pro-life events in Dover as part of the ongoing Fall 40 Days for Life observance. At 10:30 a.m., Trevino will attend the prayer vigil outside Planned Parenthood, 805 S Governor’s Ave, Dover. After the vigil, Trevino will speak on her conversion of heart at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church Early Learning Center Building on the campus of Holy Cross Church. The presentation will be followed by a light luncheon. Trevino once worked in the abortion industry, and had a change of heart after meeting peaceful 40 Days for Life protesters. She has authored the book “Redeemed by Grace, a Catholic Woman’s Journey to Planned Parenthood and Back.” The Oct. 3 events are free and all are welcome. On Oct. 10 at 10 a.m., Delaware Right To Life will hold the annual Dee Becker Memorial Tribute, at Cathedral Cemetery in Wilmington. Prayer service will be held at the gravesite of the unborn that Delaware pro-life pioneer Becker founded so many years ago. The service will be followed by a reception.
