Love on the Spectrum star Michael Theo has teamed up with Sovereign Hill and Aspect Autism Friendly to help Autistic travellers feel more confident visiting the popular Victorian attraction.
Sovereign Hill has launched a new Video Visual Story offering visitors a step-by-step look at what to expect before they arrive, from buying tickets to exploring the historic township and taking part in activities.
The video is hosted by actor and Aspect Autism Consultant Michael Theo, known for Love on the Spectrum and Austin.
Visual stories are designed to reduce uncertainty by showing Autistic people what they can expect when entering an unfamiliar environment. The new resource takes the concept beyond a traditional written guide, allowing viewers to see and hear what a visit to Sovereign Hill may be like.
Throughout the video, Theo shares moments when he feels unsure or overwhelmed and demonstrates strategies visitors can use, including taking breaks, asking questions and seeking support from staff.
“Sometimes visiting somewhere new can feel overwhelming because you don’t know what to expect or what the experience can look and feel like,” Theo said.
“I hope this video helps people feel more prepared and shows that it’s okay to take your time, ask for help or take a break if you need one.”
Head of Aspect Autism Friendly Tom Tutton said uncertainty and associated anxiety can be a significant barrier to visiting new places.
“Having the opportunity to see what an experience looks like before arriving can help reduce anxiety and build understanding and confidence,” he said.
Sovereign Hill Museums Association CEO Craig Mathieson said the initiative formed part of the attraction’s wider push to improve accessibility.

“Our partnership with Aspect and this new Video Visual Story are another important part of that commitment, helping Autistic visitors feel more confident and prepared before they arrive.”
The video is available through Sovereign Hill’s website and Aspect’s online channels, joining a growing collection of resources designed to make community experiences more accessible.
