Mitsui Ocean Cruises has christened and launched its second five-star ship, Mitsui Ocean Sakura, with a traditional naming ceremony in Yokohama before it embarked on its first voyage on Saturday.
The debut of Mitsui Ocean Sakura, formerly Seabourn Sojourn, expands the Mitsui brand to a two-ship fleet alongside Mitsui Ocean Fuji, which debuted in December 2024.
To celebrate the milestone, Cruise Traveller is offering special fly-free packages for voyages around Japan in 2027, releasing five new packages for April and September, 2027, offering voyages aboard either Mitsui Ocean Sakura or Mitsui Ocean Fuji, complete with free return flights to Tokyo from Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney. The packages are from seven to 12 nights and start at AU$8,799 per person, twin-share, in a Veranda Suite.
The official naming ceremony of Mitsui Ocean Sakura honoured the people behind the ship, with Mitsui Ocean Cruises crew members and employees collectively serving as namers.
“Throughout our long history, what we have inherited is truly service from the heart,” captain Satoshi Ninomiya said. “This spirit and tradition will be proudly passed on to Mitsui Ocean Sakura.”

Among Sakura’s new culinary experiences is Sushi Bar Shiosai, an intimate specialty restaurant on Deck 5 featuring counter and table seating.
The ship’s Grand Pool on Deck 8 offers another distinctly Japanese touch: an open-air footbath where guests can relax while remaining comfortably dressed, providing a restorative retreat between sightseeing and onboard activities.
Guests also enjoy an inclusive onboard experience featuring all-suite accommodation, dining, more than 200 alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, entertainment, Wi-Fi, select onboard activities and half-day shore excursions in most ports.
